The Vermont Interpreter Referral Service
(VIRS) has been providing statewide interpreter referral
services for sign language/spoken English/oral interpreting
assignments in setting such as medical, legal, mental
health, employment, and educational, civil and recreational
situations since October of 1992. There are still businesses
and organizations in the state that are unaware that
the service exists and are also not aware of their responsibilities
under the Americans with Disabilities Act to provide
effective communication. Vermont Interpreters Referral
Service needed to develop a Web site that could address
some of these areas. The Web site needed to provide
information for the business community, the Deaf and
Hard of Hearing community and the Interpreters community
and also provide an easy way to request interpreters.
Responsibilities included site design,
information architecture, usability testing, site development
and implementation. |
